Are you ready for a wild, seafaring adventure?
"That was the way of life in the Narrows. And for the first time, I thought that maybe Saint had been right.
You weren't made for this world, Fable."
Fable is the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, but she's not allowed to tell anyone that. Her father, Saint, abandoned her on a small island to fend for herself after a shipwreck that killed her mother. Growing up alone on the small island of Jeval, Fable must learn how to protect, feed, and care for herself. She has a knack for finding valuable materials on the ocean floor, which she sells to traders who come visit the island so that she can save up a reserve of money. Despite her father's callous manner of trying to do what's best for her, Fable watches the horizon every morning, hoping to see her father's sails returning for her. But the time has come to take her future into her own hands.
Fable is a fast-paced novel with a strong-willed female protagonist. I loved Fable's determination to do things for herself and her stubborn side that came out any time somebody tried to tell her what to do. I thought that Fable's special ability was unique and fun, even if it seemed to be the only fantasy element in the book besides the threat of sea-demons. All of the characters' names in the story are very uncommon, which is a neat aspect of the book. The romance seemed a little lacking; I would have liked to have seen more romantic tension in the book as it seemed to develop too fast for my taste. However, there is a love confession in the book that just squeezed my heart. Wow. I'm looking forward to the release of the second book next month! I need a quick lesson on sailing terminology now...
Mature content: mild profanity, death, moderate sensuality, underage drinking.
