Review: The Wicked King (Folk of the Air Series #2)

The Wicked King The Wicked King by Holly Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"You can take a thing when no one's looking. But defending it, even with all the advantage on your side, is no easy task... Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold on to."

In The Wicked King, Jude Duarte, a human girl surrounded by Faeries, finally has what she's always wanted: power. However, it seems to be slipping out of her hands faster than she anticipated and she no longer is certain where she stands with the loathsome, yet attractive king she's manipulated onto the throne. There are threats all around, but betrayal comes from where she least expects it. Of course, that's the nature of betrayal.

In this book, we discover a lot of secrets from Jude and Cardan's life. They also is some development to the relationship they pointedly refuse to admit that they have. I really like the details in this series as well as the strategy. Not to mention the strong female lead who everyone regrets underestimating. Overall, I liked this book more than the first, and I need to know what happens in the third!

Mature content: occasional profanity, sexual innuendo, torture, death.
