Review: Namesake

Namesake by Adrienne Young
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

This series is my favorite pirate themed series so far!

"We were salt and sand and sea and storm.
We were made in the Narrows."

--Namesake

This review contains minor spoilers from the first book in the series, Fable.

In this gripping sequel to Fable, Fable finds herself in an undesirable position: captured and far from those she loves. Her captor has need of Fable's special gift with gems, and his mysterious agenda leaves her mind whirling. She finds unexpected allies in people from her past, as well as discovers surprising connections to powerful people across the sea.

Namesake was an enthralling read, I found it difficult to put down! I adore Adrienne Young's writing, her use of metaphors and the five senses made her book beautiful and riveting. I was so happy to see more of Fable's gift used in this book, as it was one of my favorite aspects of the first book. I was surprised to see a minor character from the first book be redeemed, but I found it very touching and a great addition to the storyline. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a lot of development in her romantic relationship, but I was very pleased with how the duology wrapped up in the end.

All in all, I give it 3.5/5 stars!

Mature content: alcohol use, violence, blackmail, drowning, murder, kidnapping, poverty, moderate sensuality.
