Review: The Inheritance Games

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's Goodread's mystery and thriller week and I've got the mystery for you!

"Story of the century. My brain kicked back into gear because there was every indication that this wasn't a joke. I wasn't delusional. I wasn't dreaming.
I was an heiress."

In The Inheritance Games, Avery Grambs goes from sleeping in her car to sleeping at a billionaire's estate in less than a day. In true rags-to-riches fashion, the richest man in Texas left the majority of his fortune not to his family, but to Avery, a seemingly random underprivileged girl. The surviving family members are lived that they were disinherited, but Avery has to put up with them as a condition to her inheritance. The four dashing grandsons know that their grandfather always made everything into a game or a challenge, and this might be his grandest one yet. Let the games begin!

I have nothing but love for this book. There were so many mysteries, puzzles, and red herrings. There's a makeover scene, a ball, and a love triangle, need I say more? The romantic tension? Perfection! I did predict the final reveal but I'm not mad about it. I think I need to read more mysteries because I really enjoyed this one. It is clear why this book was a nominee for best YA fiction last year. I'm going to recommend this book to everyone!

Mature content: Underage drinking, domestic abuse, mild profanity, mild sensuality, mild violence.
